Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Berlin, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, as the second stop in his latest tour.
At the Federal Chancellery, Prime Minister Abe, along with Dr. Angela Merkel, the Federal Chancellor of Germany, received the salute of a guard of honor. The two leaders thereafter held a meeting.
At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to jointly act in relation to United Nations (UN) reform for their countries' bid to become permanent members of the UN Security Council. They also agreed to cooperate closely to solve the issues of the abductions by North Korea and its nuclear and missile development.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Abe paid a courtesy call on Mr. Horst Koehler, the President of Federal Republic of Germany. Prime Minister Abe and President Koehler agreed to promote bilateral dialogue and exchanges on various levels to address the common challenges of their countries, such as decreasing birthrate and aging society.
