The National Policy Unit was established under the direct control of the Prime Minister, with the aim to conduct the affairs of state from the perspective of protecting the interests of the nation and the people, rather than those of ministries and bureaus, and from a global standpoint, by breaking through compartmentalized administration. The Unit will be in charge of making decisions on matters such as a framework of taxation and fiscal policies, and basic policies for economic management. The unveiling ceremony was also attended by Mr. Naoto Kan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for National Policy.
The Government Revitalisation Unit is an organization inaugurated within the Cabinet Office in order to reform the overall national administration, including the budget and system of national administration, from the people's standpoint and also to review the division of roles among the national government, local public authorities, and private companies. Together with Prime Minister Hatoyama, who chairs the Council, Mr. Yoshito Sengoku, Minister of State for Government Revitalization, attended the unveiling ceremony.
