Saturday, June 16, 2012
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the eighth Meeting among Four Ministers on the Issue of Nuclear Power Stations at the Prime Minister's Office, and decided on the restart of Units 3 and 4 of Oi Nuclear Power Station as the final judgment of the Government.
At the closing of the meeting, the Prime Minister said, "Governor Nishikawa of Fukui Prefecture made a statement today that Fukui Prefecture gives consent to the governmental decision on the restart of Units 3 and 4 of Oi Nuclear Power Station. I would like to express my gratitude to the prefecture for making the decision, following the accident at the TEPCO Fukushima Nuclear Power Station, as the municipality in which the nuclear power plant is located and which has been dealing with the nuclear power plant and supplying the electricity thus generated to the regions consuming that electricity for over forty years. We will take the words of Governor Nishikawa deeply to heart and will continuously address the items requested by the governor.
Now that we have won the understanding of the municipality in which the nuclear power plant is located, the restart of Units 3 and 4 of Oi Nuclear Power Station by the four ministers shall be the final judgment of the Government. The administration is committed to further carry forward the approaches to restore the public's trust in nuclear power administration and the safety regulation. Also, until the inauguration of the new regulatory organization, we will promptly construct a special monitoring system to ensure safety and assurance for the people in the region. We will also take all possible measures to leave nothing omitted for ensuring safety during the restart work.
Including these efforts, the Government will thoroughly and constantly pursue efforts to ensure and further improve the safety of nuclear power generation."
