I am MORI Masako.

I have been appointed as the Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister on Women’s Empowerment, a post newly established by the Prime Minister’s office.

The Japanese government under Prime Minister Kishida attaches great importance to women’s empowerment.

I will assist the Prime Minster to address a wide range of political issues including the promotion of women to managerial positions, the eradication of violence against women, a drastic change in mentality and improvements in working environments.

The Global Gender Gap Index ranks Japan 120th in terms of its gender gap, which is the lowest rank among all developed nations.

In addition, the circumstances relating to women under the COVID-19 pandemic are getting worse.

For example, the decreases in the number of employees was twice as large for female employees compared to their male counterparts.

I would like to strive boldly to help women in various situations, giving a voice to women who face challenges and difficulties, and utilize their views in creating policies to change current circumstances.

I will also contribute to measures designed to relieve difficulties for women and girls, not only in Japan, but throughout the world.

Thank you.
