I am MORI Masako, Special Advisor to the Japanese Prime Minister for Women's Empowerment.

I have a message on International Women's Day. I express my sincere respect and gratitude to all of the persons committed to promoting Women's empowerment.

Japan ranks 120th in the Global Gender Gap and lags behind other countries especially in the economic and political sectors.

In addition, the circumstances relating to women under the COVID-19 pandemic are getting worse, for example the decreases in the number of employees was twice as large for female employees compared to their male counterparts, and there has been a significant, increase in cases of suicides, spousal violence and sexual attacks.

Looking around the world, many women and girls spend their days in fear for their life and health, which are threatened.

So we must never turn away from the difficulties for women and girls, both in Japan as well as the world. With this strong will and determination, I will do my best to assist the Japanese Government under Prime Minister Kishida in this newly established post as his Special Advisor for women's empowerment.

Finally, I sincerely wish for the deep happiness of women and girl at home and abroad!
